Article: How Do You Cast Your Burdens On The Lord?

How Do You Cast Your Burdens On The Lord?

Burdens... We all get loaded down with them – finances, broken relationships, emotional traumas, failing health, unexpected grief. Burdens hang on us like a wet blanket to steal our joy and zap our strength.

The Bible tells us to cast our cares on God, but how do we do that when the weight of our burdens sometimes crush in on us and we can't let it go? What do we do when we are knee-deep in the mire of our burdens and our anxiety is making us sink?

How do we really let go, and let God be God?

 Acknowledge it, and say it.

“My grace is always more than enough for you, and my power finds its full expression through your weakness.” So I will celebrate my weaknesses, for when I’m weak I sense more deeply the mighty power of Christ living in me. So I’m not defeated by my weakness, but delighted! For when I feel my weakness and endure mistreatment—when I’m surrounded with troubles on every side and face persecution because of my love for Christ—I am made yet stronger. For my weakness becomes a portal to God’s power.
– 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 TPT

Tell God exactly what your burdens are, cry out loud in prayer. God knows the intentions of our hearts, but when we are in a pit, our hearts need to physically cry out for help. We need to speak the truth to our minds and get honest with our Heavenly Father. Be real, come out of hiding, He knows.

Say it until you are out of words, out of tears, until you see the end of you and the beginning of Him. The power of crying out to God unlocks the doors of heaven and opens your eyes to see God moving on your behalf.

Soak in God's Word

Truth's shining light guides me in my choices and decisions; the revelation of Your Word makes my pathway clear.
– Psalm 119:105 TPT

If you have a specific burden that is dragging you under, name it and start looking for verses in the Bible that deal with it. When you come across a verse that you find helpful, meditate on it and soak yourself in it. Surround yourself with as many verses as you can find.

If you don't know where to start...

a) Try Googling "Bible verses on _________"

b) Look at the concordance at the back of your Bible that will list different words/subjects to look up

c) Go to www.blueletterbible.org and type in a specific biblical word in their search engine (eg. forgiveness, sin, money etc)

Worship

Come on, everyone! Let's sing for joy to the Lord! Let's shout our loudest praises to our God who saved us! Everyone come meet His face with a thankful heart. Don't hold back your praises; make Him great by your shouts of joy!
– Psalm 95:1-2 TP

Worship takes our eyes off of all our messes and fixes our eyes on our God's goodness and faithfulness. Keep worship music playing around the clock if you need to!

Be rooted in a community

It takes a grinding wheel to sharpen a blade, and so one person sharpens the character of another.
– Proverbs 27:17 TPT

God did not design for us to carry our burdens alone. He gave us like-minded believers who can identify with our struggles and encourage us on the road to freedom. Gather a few of your closest friends who are believers that are true prayer warriors, or seek out a professional Biblical counsellor to guide you into Truth.
