How To Love God With All Your Soul, Might And Heart?

“Hear, Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." 
– Deuteronomy 6:4

What's the big deal with your heart?

Moses told the Israelites to know in their hearts that God disciplines just as a Father disciplines his son (Deut 8:5). Moses also instructed the Israelites to lay in their hearts that there is no other God than Yahweh (Deut 4:39-40). God Himself said that He will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and write His law on their hearts (Jer 31:33). 

Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.
– Proverbs 4:23

God knows that our desires, passions, and affections flow from our hearts. It is important for us to surrender our hearts to God - to yield our desires, passions, and affections towards Him and set our hearts on things above. Lay in your heart there is no other God than Yahweh. Without this truth firmly rooted in our hearts, it is easy to be carried away by worldly desires.

But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.

What do we mean by loving God with all your soul?

The living soul - one's whole being as a living person which includes the heart but more. 

Everything about us as a person is to declare Yahweh as Lord. Our entire being is to display that we love God. 

Our perceptions. Hunger. Thoughts. Behaviour. Actions. How we talk and behave, what we do with our hands, how we utilise our talents and even react to challenges.

How do I love God with all my might?

Greek definition: Power 

Aramaic definition: Wealth 

The strength of a person is not just who he is but what is at his disposal. Our resources, spouse, children, pets, tools, wealth, time, etc. How can we love God with what we have?
